Follower by Seamus Heaney

In my opinion a follower is a bad thing as I see a follower as someone who follows the herd and does not have an opinion for himself, a follower normally agrees with what everyone says for example, if I believed that Ronaldo was better than Messi but I looked up to one of my peers and just followed him and he said Messi, a follower would generally agree with what the leader says. I believe this is a bad trait to have as a person should have the chance to express there point but they don’t. In addition a follower may also be someone who follows a group like the Donald Trump campaign.

My four points would be that in the first 3 stanzas the son is admiring his father as its his role model and the son is just saying postive things about him.

Another point is that in the last 3 stanzas we learn that the son has matured and now he has to look after his father, we as an audience can learn from this as it’s reality and our parents will eventually grow, this can be seen as a negative but it aint as its just a relationship that has matured.

The father starts of as a strong man we know this as it says in the poem “his shoulders globed like a full sail strong as his admiring his strength”, this line represents his father is strong as his shoulders are broad.

My last point would be the rhyme pattern in the last paragraph.

English

Climbing my grandfather and letters from Yorkshire are very similar poems as they both include relationships, with both being about family members. Furthermore letters from Yorkshire is about her father and Climbing my grandfather is about his grandfather we know this as grandfather is included in the title however we are not 100% certain if letters from Yorkshire is about her father but the way we analysed it we believe it is the father because there is someone working in a garden so we believe it is an older person possibly retired, we know he is a male as it says ” his knuckles singing”.
